Ellrose Hanlon

“Wait can you do that again my camera wasn’t on”

Background

Born and raised in Syracuse, New York, Ellrose’s interest in videography and photography sparked after finding a Nikon camera sitting in the back of her mom’s closet. At this time, the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing, so during lockdown her two siblings and their two Bernese Mountain dogs were her models and test subjects in front of the camera. A few months later, she returned to high school and quickly found her camera attached to her hip as she brought it to all school events.

Soon after, a friend recommended that Ellrose take photos for a high school basketball game. This experience introduced her to videography, and that basketball game became Ellrose’s first sports edit. The excitement to create her own photo and video content multiplied, and she began combining her passion for sports and her newfound love of media. She reached out to any nearby teams to work for free, as well as starting her first social media platform, then coined “livefrom315.” This account began catching interest from local companies and sports teams, and Ellrose was given the opportunity to create content and advertisements for their platforms while expanding her portfolio. As her social media presence grew, Ellrose also updated her portfolio to become “editsbyellrose” to better align with her growing interest in video editing.

Looking forward, Ellrose hopes to continue to grow her skills in photography–from senior portraits to wildlife in Tanzania– while continuing to follow her passion for videography and using her new portfolio website “Hanlon Creatives” to share her progress. Currently, as a student at Colgate University, she balances her role filming for the Colgate Athletics Department and her commitment to American High, a local movie production company. Ellrose looks forward to graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Studies from Colgate University and using her education to pursue a career in the media industry upon graduation in 2026.
